couple shoot: tilt-shift experiment I

November 19, 2009 | Filed Under friends, photography, portraits

the setting was sweet: georgetown, late afternoon, an unseasonably warm and sunny november day with a startlingly blue sky echoed in the potomac. the equipment was exciting: i rented a tilt-shift lens (canon 45mm 2.8 ts-e), which (from what i understand) is intended to offer advantages in architectural photography related to perspective and depth of field, but also makes for fantastically dreamy kinds of portraits and i wanted to try my hand at this after seeing many photographers i admire use it regularly, even for weddings. and the couple? perfect! well… don’t take my word for it, please adore their cuteness yourself :)

thanks so much both of you! kristel, you’re one of the “photographers i admire [who] use it regularly” :) so you’re a big part of why i wanted to try this!

Awesome work! My favorite is the bridge picture – I would actually consider getting a 16×20 print of it =P might even contact you about that =)

The forth portrait down from top is also really nice and I really like the portraits above the bridge picture, too. I haven’t really ever gotten into the whole TS thing, but can appreciate the look. You’ve done really nice here – big fan of the experiment ::two thumbs up:: !

Lovely set Ayesha. I especially like the image of an embrace backed by a de-focused cityscape at night. Evocative stuff!

You really did a wonderful job Ayesha, thanks again…I especially love the pics with the bridge over our heads and the purple flowers in the background.

I don’t have a trained eye to see what the tilt shift thingy is doing differently from all your other pics, but….as you know…I like em all :)
