when a client plans their wedding with the kind of photos they want in mind, and those kind of photos happen to be the kind i love to shoot… that’s sort of a dream come true for me. and that was nadia’s lovely two-day wedding, both days set at locations and times to give us the ingredients for gorgeous images. we were blessed with stunning weather both days – such blue skies and golden light! – but it was nadia’s smart planning to choose such stunning locations as well: rockfield manor in bel air, maryland, for the mehndi, and deerfield golf club in newark, delware, for the wedding and reception.
i don’t suppose being drop-dead gorgeous and marrying such a tall, debonair brit was actually part of her plan for pretty pictures, but of course, they were the best part :D thank you so much, nadia and zain, for working with me and being patient with me while i made you guys walk around endlessly and stare into bright sunlight and all that. you are such a lovely couple and i pray that you are always blessed and happy together!
it was also my pleasure to work again with videographers ethan and shannen of wise films, who get as giddy about good light as i do :), as well as the lovely and super-talented makeup artist caitlyn meyer.
here are a few highlights from the mehndi and the wedding!
it’s always such an honor for me to have the opportunity to photograph a second wedding in the same family. so when nabila, whose wedding i photographed in 2011, contacted me to see if i was available for her brother’s wedding this summer, i was super excited. they are the kindest family, and zahir’s wedding promised to be unforgettable. it was my pleasure to meet the lovely maggie on the first night of the two-day wedding, at the mehndi at zahir’s family’s home in baltimore. at this traditional event, the women and men celebrated separately, with the men going to a local restaurant to share entertainment and dinner. after spending time with the ladies through some traditional rituals – applying henna (mehndi) designs, feeding the bride sweets, etc., – i spent a little time with the guys, in what was possibly the most entertaining experience i’ve ever had at a mehndi, with comedy hypnotist matt davis making me laugh so hard i could barely hit the shutter button. still not sure how much of it was real – but it was certainly hilarious! please enjoy these images of the good times had by all :) stay tuned for the wedding photos from the following day – starring aladdin the camel!
i met vanu just a few months ago when we got together in raleigh to shoot her and gagan’s engagement session, but i met gagan about 20 years ago when his oldest sister and i became bffs in college. gagan’s family are so dear to my heart, and seeing him with this incredible young woman and how happy they make each other has been such a blessing. to be a part of this amazing, three-day wedding weekend myself was such an honor – my heartfelt thanks to vanu and especially vanu’s mom, for trusting me and taking me on for this most important event; and to auntie manjeet, all the love in the world <3
so i’ve shared here some photos from the first two days of events… starting with the sangeet at vanu’s family home, at which vanu and many of her friends and relatives had henna (mehndi) applied on their hands, and celebrated with song and dance. the next night, i was actually not there! but i had the pleasure of working once again with photographer jerold santa cruz, who was my second shooter for the third and final day of events, and jerold was able to cover the second night for me. the second night was the traditional “jago” ceremony, in which the family members dance and celebrate while carrying a large, brightly decorated steel jug.
many more photos to come, from the wedding ceremony and reception on the final day!
it was my pleasure to be a part of rabia and azim’s two-day wedding in virginia in the early fall last year. azim’s brother is actually a good friend of my husband’s and an old college acquaintance of mine, so it was very nice to meet the whole family and truly an honor to be the one to photograph the wedding. below i’ve shared some images from the pre-wedding mehndi event, held at diya restaurant in vienna, where games with the family, music by jatin anand from dc vibez and mehndi for the guests by deepti khona from henna harmony helped everyone celebrate the upcoming wedding.
after the mehndi i’ve shared some highlights from the wedding itself, which took place at the lovely cherry blossom banquet hall in sterling, va, with gorgeous floral arrangements by america’s beautiful florist matching rabia’s white, blue and pink outfit. rabia’s hair and makeup were done by the amazing sanober azam. after the wedding, we stopped by a nearby park for portraits in some gorgeous afternoon light, and then finished up with rabia’s first-ever taste of taco bell – a wedding promise from her new husband :)
i also want to give a shout out to jerold santa cruz for coming out to sterling to help me with this wedding! thank you for your beautiful photos and professional work :) and thank you once again to both of you, rabia and azim, for allowing me to be a part of your wedding!
