saad & mahroo’s wedding

at looong last i have wedding picture to post! i had the honor of being the second shooter at this wedding for S2S Photography, whose owner, saad syed, was the groom. saad’s assistant sara j. haddad was the primary photographer, and the two of us had way too much fun shooting this wedding with each other and among friends! if only all our shooting experiences could be this stress-free… well, as much as shooting a wedding can ever be!
a few notes: for the portraits, saad actually set up the lighting himself. i shot with my canon 5d and for the most part with my tamron 28-70 on, although i tried out the 85 1.2 (oh my!) that sara had rented; i had a 580ex on my hotshoe and generally bounced it either forward or backward, depending on where i was standing, and controlled flash output manually (now THAT was a learning experience!). i can’t thank sara and saad and mahroo enough for this opportunity!
it’s finally here! my new canon 5D!

picked it up wednesday morning. practiced on musa. took it to Lost dinner at friend’s house wednesday evening. wanted to share! oh and these are also with my new standard lens: tamron 28-70 f/2.8.
put musa up on the counter and started snapping.

at my friend’s house… okay so it’s hard to compose when you’re not looking through the viewfinder.

my friend raheela is an AMAZING cook! this dinner spread: angel hair pasta with fresh spinach, tomatoes and cream; seared salmon fillets; green bean casserole; tossed salad with homemade garlicky dressing; simple boiled sweet corn. oh yum.
also, noticing with these pictures the natural vignetting that occurs on the full-frame – i love it, but was able to remove it for this picture…

took this one because imran wants a new facebook profile picture… added vignette to this one.

raheela took these pictures, not me! she is also thinking about getting a dslr and getting into all this…

baba feeding buddy grapes – this vignette is natural.

couldn’t resist trying this out at night, on the way home. intersection of 29 and 193, just north of the beltway…

so this is an experiment in 1) watermarking my images and 2) the simpleviewer flash gallery wordpress plugin, because there are a zillion pictures i wanted to upload for this post. i’m going to try this, see how it works, and if it works nicely i’ll edit this post and write a whole bunch more about the bridal walk…

new lens! canon 50 mm 1.8

you know… i don’t think i’m going to be able to blog all three remaining weddings before i start blogging regularly. i’ve done so many exciting things in the past couple of weeks – the bridal walk in frederick, a fantastic desi formal shoot with one of my best friends and her husband, dressed up in their wedding outfits of five years ago, and today i got to try out my brand new (well, used) lens at my favorite park in the world – Great Falls VA – with my favorite subject – you know who!!
this lens is my settle-for wish-for the 50 mm 1.4 lens, but it still does amazing things at an aperture of 1.8, for someone who normally can’t go under 4.0 or so zoomed up close. here are three of my favorite shots from the day: my son looking at a squirrel in the trees, autumn leaves at the park, and my nephew POSING – he’s hilarious! i’m trying to take a picture of my son, who doesn’t pay me any attention in the least and most certainly does not hold still while i’m trying to focus, and my nephew comes up and says, “me too! me too!” and poses and holds beautifully still for me, looking right into the camera with those gorgeous eyes mashallah…
so, my work on the website is coming along! i’m getting friends to look at it – thank you, if you are one of them! – all my slideshows are up; in fact, i am probably going to cut them down a bit, and i just need to figure out how i’m going to present my contact information and then i’m public, inshallah!
for now, i’ll try to blog the past two bridal shoots as soon as i get a chance. but i really wanted to share these pictures… so excited about the new lens!
